Oblique Seville Defeats Noah Lyles With A New World Lead 9.82

Oblique Seville of Jamaica defeated World Champion Noah Lyles of the USA to win the men's 100-meter race in the sixth Racers Grand Prix on Saturday at the National Stadium, clocking in at a personal best and a world lead of 9.82 seconds (0.9 meters per second). Seville beat his previous best time of 9.86 seconds and took the lead in the world from American Christian Miller, who ran 9.93 seconds in April. Seville later revealed that he "surprised" himself after having to "back off in training" due to a minor injury. With a season-best 9.85 seconds, Lyles finished second, and Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya finished third with 10.02 seconds.

Julien Alfred of St. Lucia broke her own personal record of 10.81 seconds, setting a new national record, and tied the meet record held by Shericka Jackson with a lifetime best time of 10.78 seconds (1.3 m/s). She finished slightly slower than the world record of 10.77 seconds achieved by American Jacious Sears in the middle of April. With a second-place time of 10.99 seconds, Krystal Sloley became the 24th Jamaican woman to run under 11.00 seconds, while Shashalee Forbes finished third in a season-best 11.05 seconds.
